Governor Tomblin Announces 2013 West Virginia State Travel Guide Now Available

12/27/2012

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin and West Virginia Division of Tourism Commissioner Betty Carver today announced the 2013 West Virginia Official State Travel Guide is available free at Welcome Center locations statewide or by request.

"Travelers from near and far can learn, research, and plan great adventures in West Virginia with the new guide-or a click on their smartphone," Gov. Tomblin said.

Whether it's shopping and dining, outdoor recreation and lodging or culture and history events and entertainment, the 2013 Travel Guide is arranged by easy to identify state travel regions. This year's cover photo showcases the evening sky above the State Capitol, ablaze with fireworks reflecting the celebratory spirit of 150 years of statehood. The guide also includes a sesquicentennial theme featuring 150 opportunities to experience the Mountain State, 150 Reasons to Love West Virginia State Parks, and a Scout's Guide to Family Fun welcoming the Boy Scouts of America and their families to the Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve later next year.

West Virginia Division of Tourism Commissioner Betty Carver said, "It is always exciting to prepare and distribute the state travel guide each year. This year we are particularly pleased that the guide has content that includes the 150th birthday of West Virginia as well as the Scout's Guide. Families can read through our user-friendly guide to plan any number of different visits and itineraries. We look forward to welcoming new guests and returning friends."

The guide maintains its compact size, making it easy to carry anywhere. Smartphone users will have greater opportunity to access information online via QR codes on select ads. The 2013 West Virginia State Travel Guide will also be available through Tourism's website by early January.

Published in cooperation with Miles, the company has produced the guide since 2004. It was printed at Quad Graphics in Martinsburg.
